Terms of Service

Effective 24 October 2026

These terms govern your use of Splitz, the apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android, and this website, provided by Disco Volante Labs LLC ("we", "us"). By using Splitz, you agree to them. If you don't agree, don't use Splitz.

The privacy policy explains what we collect and how we use it.

What Splitz Does

Splitz works out how shared costs divide between people and keeps a record of who paid, who owes what, and what has been settled. It doesn't process, hold, or transfer money, and it isn't a party to any debt or agreement between the people who use it. Payments you record in Splitz are records only.

Splitz can open Venmo, Cash App, or PayPal with an amount filled in. Those payments happen in those apps, under their own terms. We aren't responsible for their availability or conduct.

Who Can Use Splitz

You must be at least 13 to use Splitz. In the EEA and UK, you must also be old enough to consent to data processing where you live (up to 16) to create an account. If you're under the age of majority where you live, you need a parent or guardian's permission to use Splitz and to make purchases.

Your Account

  • Groups, friends, syncing, imports, and purchases need a Splitz account.
  • You can sign in with an email code, a password, Sign in with Apple, or Google sign-in. Apple's and Google's sign-in services are covered by their own terms.
  • An account is for one person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself, keep your email address current, and tell us at support@discovolantelabs.com if you think someone else has used your account.
  • You're responsible for what happens under your account.

Groups and Shared Records

  • Members see what's in a group. Everyone in a group can see its expenses, payments, comments, receipt photos and items, and each member's display name, @handle, profile photo, and payment handles. Only add to a group what you're happy for its members to see.
  • Shared records stay with the group. If you leave a group or delete your account, your share of past expenses and payments stays in the group under your display name, so everyone else's balances stay correct.
  • People who don't use Splitz. You can add someone to a group by name before they join. Only add people you actually share costs with.
  • Amounts are between members. A balance in Splitz reflects what members have entered. It isn't a bill from us, and we don't collect or enforce it.

Your Content

Your content is what you put into Splitz: expenses, receipts, photos, comments, names, forwarded emails, and files you share. You keep ownership of it. You give us permission to store, copy, process, display, and transmit it, only to run Splitz for you and the people you share it with, and as the privacy policy describes. That includes sending imported receipts to our AI provider to read when your plan covers it. This permission ends when the content is deleted, except for copies kept as the privacy policy describes, such as shared group records and backups.

You're responsible for your content and for having the right to share it. Receipts and confirmations can carry other people's names, codes, and booking details. Splitz warns you when a receipt you're attaching has a scannable code, because group members can see it.

The Free Plan and Ads

  • Splitz is free to use and is supported by ads on the Free plan. Ads come from Google AdMob: a full-screen ad after some saves, a labelled ad row in some lists, and optional videos you can watch to unlock something, such as one receipt import or a day of charts.
  • The Free plan has limits, such as how many active groups you can create and how many recurring expenses you can have. The current limits are shown in the app. Joining other people's groups isn't limited.
  • On the Free plan, receipt photos may be removed after 90 days, as the privacy policy describes. The expense and its items stay.
  • Don't block, hide, or interfere with ads in the app, and don't use automated means to view ads or watch reward videos.

Splitz Pro

  • What it is. Splitz Pro is an auto-renewing subscription, monthly or yearly. What it includes, and its price in your country, are shown in the app before you buy. Pro features may change between releases.
  • Payment. You buy Pro through the App Store or Google Play, and they charge your Apple Account or Google account. We never see your card details.
  • Auto-renewal. Pro renews automatically at the end of each period, at the then-current price, unless you cancel. On the App Store, cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period; your account is charged for renewal within the 24 hours before it ends. On Google Play, cancel before the end of the current period.
  • Cancelling. Manage or cancel your subscription in your App Store account settings or in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions. Deleting the app or your Splitz account doesn't cancel it. When you cancel, Pro stays on until the end of the period you've paid for.
  • Free trial. The yearly plan may start with a free trial for eligible people, shown in the app before you subscribe. If you don't cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends, the subscription starts and you're charged. Any unused part of a free trial ends when you buy a subscription. The store decides who is eligible.
  • Price changes. If the price changes, the App Store or Google Play tells you beforehand, as their rules require, and you can cancel before it applies.

Trip Pass

  • What it is. A Trip Pass is a one-time purchase that gives one group Pro features for 7 or 30 days, for everyone in it, with no ads in that group and receipt imports up to the pass's allowance. It doesn't renew.
  • One group. You can start a pass on a group when you buy it, or keep it and start it later on a group you choose. Once started, it applies only to that group: it can't be moved to another group or to another person, and it can't be paused. Starting another pass on the same group adds its days to the time left.
  • It's used up. A pass is used up when it starts on a group. A pass you bought stays yours until you start it. The Trip Pass included with yearly Pro has to be started within that subscription year. Unused days and imports don't carry over or turn into credit when the pass ends.
  • Splitting the cost. When you buy a pass, you can choose to add its cost to the group as an expense, split between the members. It's an ordinary expense: members can see, edit, or delete it, and anything they owe for it is between you and them.

Refunds

Purchases are processed by Apple or Google, so refunds are handled by them under their refund policies. We can't issue refunds ourselves. On the App Store, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Google Play, see Google Play's refund policy. Nothing in these terms limits any right to a refund you have under the law where you live.

Receipt Scanning, Imports, and AI Reading

  • Scanning reads a receipt on your phone. It can misread text, so check items and amounts before you rely on them.
  • Imports. With Pro, in a group with a Trip Pass, or by watching a video to unlock one, you can forward receipts and bills to your Splitz address or share PDFs, screenshots, text, and receipt links to Splitz, and an AI service fills in the details. AI reading can be wrong. You review every import before it's saved, and you're responsible for what you save.
  • Fair use. Imports have fair-use limits, shown in the app. We may change them. To protect the service, we may slow down, skip, or pause mail to a forwarding address that receives a flood of messages.
  • What to send. Forward or share only receipts and bills, and only ones you have the right to share. Your forwarding address isn't a general mailbox.

Acceptable Use

Don't use Splitz to:

  • break the law, or help someone else break it;
  • harass, threaten, deceive, or spam anyone, including through invitations, comments, names, or reminders;
  • record debts you know to be false, or pressure people with them;
  • upload content that is unlawful, or that you don't have the right to share, or that contains malware;
  • impersonate anyone, or create accounts to get around a suspension, a plan limit, a free trial, or an ad rule;
  • access Splitz by automated means, scrape it, overload it, probe or bypass its security, or interfere with other people's use of it;
  • copy, sell, or resell Splitz or access to it, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows.

We don't review what people put into Splitz, but we may remove content or limit features that break these terms.

Ending Your Use of Splitz

You can stop using Splitz at any time, and delete your account in the app or by email. See Delete Your Account.

We may suspend or close an account, or remove content, if it breaks these terms, puts other people or Splitz at risk, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we'll tell you why. We may change, suspend, or stop offering Splitz or any part of it.

The sections on your content, refunds, disclaimers, liability, and governing law continue to apply after your account ends.

Other Services

Splitz works with services run by others, including the App Store, Google Play, Sign in with Apple, Google sign-in, Venmo, Cash App, and PayPal. Your use of them is covered by their own terms, and we aren't responsible for them.

Accuracy

Splitz does arithmetic on what you and other members enter. Scanned and imported amounts can be wrong, and currency conversions use reference exchange rates that may differ from the rate you paid. Check amounts before you pay or ask for money. Splitz isn't financial, tax, or legal advice. We aren't responsible for amounts paid or not paid on the basis of figures in Splitz.

Disclaimers

Splitz is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the extent the law allows. We don't promise that Splitz will be uninterrupted, error-free, or always available, or that data will never be lost. Keep your own records of anything important; Download My Data and the group CSV export can help.

Limitation of Liability

To the extent the law allows, Disco Volante Labs LLC isn't liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of Splitz. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim relating to Splitz is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Splitz in the 12 months before the claim and US$50.

Some places don't allow these exclusions or limits, so they may not all apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law.

If You Got Splitz From the App Store

These terms are between you and Disco Volante Labs LLC, not Apple. Apple isn't responsible for Splitz or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. If Splitz fails to meet an applicable warranty, you can notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any; to the extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for Splitz. Apple isn't responsible for any claims relating to Splitz, including product liability claims, claims that it fails to meet a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection claims, or claims that it infringes someone's intellectual property. You confirm that you aren't located in a country subject to a US government embargo, and that you aren't on a US government list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. If you're a consumer in a country whose laws give you rights that can't be changed by agreement, those rights still apply.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms. If we do, we'll change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Splitz after a change takes effect, the updated terms apply.
